Women's Lacrosse falls to Elms in season debut

North Adams, MA-- After over 700 days off due to the pandemic, the MCLA women's lacrosse team returned to Shewcraft Field.  The Trailblazers welcomed Elms to North Adams after the lenghty layoff and the visiting Blazers came away with a 17-2 victory.  The matchup marked the season opener for both programs.

Elms is now 1-0 while MCLA is 0-1.

The Blazers placed seven players in the scoring column on the afternoon.  Greta Frankwicz, Elise Paier, Lauren Fletcher, and Shannen Salamon each posted three goals in the win.

Elms started off flying high as Paier got things started just 23 seconds into the match.  Salamon would match her at the 12 minute mark of the opening quarter and when Frankwicz tallied with ten minutes to play in the first quarter, Elms led 3-0.

Salamon added her second of the day with 8:33 left and then Elese Ciarcia potted her first to increase the margin to 5-0.  Fletcher and Taylor Borla rounded out the first quarter scoring as Elms posted a 7-0 lead.

The visitors continued the offensive action in the second quarter as goals from Anna-Elise Pikul and Fletcher increased the lead to 9-0.  Later in the quarter, Frankwicz posted a pair of markers to make it 11-0 at the break.

Elms widened the gap in the third quarter before MCLA finally found some offense.  Trailing 16-0, MCLA's Brooke Digennaro collected a Julia Graham pass for her first goal of the season.  A few minutes later, the duo would reverse roles with Digennaro feeding Graham for her first goal as a Trailblazer.

Elms' Emma Walsh earned the win between the pipes stopping 10 shots in the first half of play.  The Blazers outshot MCLA 38-24 in the contest.

MCLA's Lori Lester earned the start in goal and collected 5 saves.

The Trailblazers will host Mt. Holyoke College on Tuesday afternoon as they continue non league action.
