Lester collects 16 saves but Trailblazers fall to Amcats 10-4

North Adams, MA-- Anna Maria's Ashley Rufo scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Amcat women's lacrosse team to a 10-4 win over MCLA this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.  The Amcats improve to 2-1 on the season while MCLA dips to 0-3.

MCLA opened the scoring when Brooke Digennaro tallied just 45 seconds into the contest for an early 1-0 advantage.  Anna Maria would score the next three goals to take the lead for keeps.  Riley Cote started the run and goals from Alice Yokabaskas and Rufo made it 3-1 in favor of the visitors.

Trailblazer Julia Graham scored with just 48 seconds left in the first quarter to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Amcat Abriana Morgan would tally in the final seconds of the quarter to make it 4-2 after one period of play.

The action slowed in the second quarter but Anna Maria would increase the lead to 6-2 after goals from Raegan Hachey and Morgan.  It would remain that way at the half.

Neither team would tally in the third quarter and MCLA pulled within three on two occasions in the fourth. Digennaro scored her second and third goals of the match, the latter pulled MCLA within 7-4 with still seven minutes to play.  Anna Maria would pull away late though as Rufo connected on a pair of goals and Riley Michaud rounded out the scoring in the final two minutes.

Morgan and Yokabaskas complimented Rufo with two goals apiece to pace the Amcat offense.  Sarah Burt notched a pair of assists in the win.  Goalkeeper Ashley Sheehan earned the win in net stopping ten shots.

MCLA's Digennaro ended with a season best 3 goals.  Julia Graham added a goal while Summer Nichols chipped in with an assist.  Lori Lester had her best game of the season for MCLA with 16 saves.
