Women’s Lacrosse can’t keep pace with Salem State in MASCAC opener

SALEM, Mass— Eleven different players would score today for Salem State as the Vikings handed the MCLA Women's Lacrosse team a 21-4 defeat on opening day of league play. With the win Salem improves to 4-5 (1-0 MASCAC) while the Trailblazers fall to 2-2 (0-1 MASCAC).

Down 3-0 Julia Graham and Summer Nichols would score just forty-five seconds apart to bring the Trailblazers to within one with just over eight minutes left in the first quarter. Unfortunately for the visitors, that would be as close as they would get the rest of the afternoon.

Salem State would reel off four straight including a pair by Madison White before Graham would feed Nichols for her 2nd on the day to make it 7-3.

The Vikings would score three more in the first quarter as part as a 12-goal run that made it 19-3 headed into the fourth quarter.

MCLA's Skyelyn Haynes would break the run but the hosts would score twice more cruising to the 21-4 MASCAC opening day win.

Salem State's Jenna Wells led all scorers with 4 goals, while teammates Taylor Sujko and Mackenzi McNamara both tallied hat-tricks.

Viking goalkeeper Carson Reidy (W, 4-5) faced only 6 shots making two saves in the win. MCLA's Lori Lester (L, 2-2) made 14 saves on thirty-five shots in the loss.

Salem will be home Thursday when they return to action against Nichols College. MCLA hosts Worcester State next Saturday at 1pm in another MASCAC tilt.
