Fitchburg State soars past Women’s Lacrosse in MASCAC action

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.—Julia Graham would score four times for MCLA tonight but the Trailblazers would fall 18-5 to visiting Fitchburg State in MASCAC Women's Lacrosse action. With the win the Falcons improve to 5-6 (2-2 MASCAC) while MCLA falls to 2-6 (0-4 MASCAC).

With Fitchburg up 4-0, a Skyelyn Haynes free position shot would find the back of the net with just one minute left in the first quarter and a Julia Graham (4 goals) tally at the 9:11 mark of the second would make it 4-2. The Falcons however would score the next three to stretch their lead to 7-2 with 5:52 left in the half. Graham's second goal would stop the run but Delany Ponder's goal with just twelve seconds left made it 8-3 at the break.

Graham would find the back of the net twice more, but Fitchburg would dominate the second half outscoring MCLA 10-2 to coast to the 18-5 conference win.

Nine different players would score for the Falcons with Ponder (3 goals, two assists), Eva Kozikowski (3 goals, four assists) and Nicole Orlowski (3 goals, four assists) leading the way.

Fitchburg goalie Alyson Cote (W, 2-5) made five saves in the win. MCLA keeper Lori Lester (L, 2-6) stopped 15 Falcon shots but endured the loss for the Trailblazers.

MCLA's lone senior player, midfielder Skyelyn Haynes was honored before the game.

Both teams will be back in action this Saturday as Fitchburg State hosts Westfield State at noon and MCLA hosts Mass Maritime at 6pm.
