Westfield flies past Women’s Lacrosse with 16-3 MASCAC win

WESTFIELD, Mass.— Westfield State would use ten different goal scorers tonight cruising to a 16-3 conference victory over the MCLA Women's Lacrosse team. With the win the Owls improve to 11-5 (6-0 MASCAC) while MCLA falls to 2-8 (0-6 MASCAC).

A Summer Nichols goal less than two minutes in would tie the game at 1-1 but Westfield would end the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 5-1 lead. MCLA's Julia Graham made it 5-2 early in the second but that would be as close as the Trailblazers would get as the Owls scored the next six goals taking an 11-2 advantage into the final quarter.

Graham's second marker just ten seconds into the fourth would stop the run but the home team would not leave any doubt ending the game on a 5-0 run to walk away with the 16-3 league win.

Westfield's Nicole Rinkus (3 goals), Kiely Hafensteiner (2 goals, 2 assists) and Arianna Andresen (2 goals, assist) led the offensive attack for the Owls.

Westfield State goalie Sydney Smith (W, 6-2) made three save in the win while MCLA keeper Lori Lester (L, 2-8) stopped eight Westfield shots in the loss.

Both teams will wrap up their regular seasons on the road on Saturday as Westfield visits Framingham State at noon and MCLA travels to Bridgewater State for a 1pm start.
