Trailblazers Shutdown Wildcats 1-0

Trailblazers Shutdown Wildcats 1-0

The MCLA Trailblazers women's soccer team won their second consecutive home game Wednesday beating SUNYIT 1-0 in a non-conference tilt at Shewcraft Field.

MCLA had good pressure on Wildcats keeper Angela Bartlett, but wasn't able to slip one past her until the 70th minute when Jackie Dwyer knocked home a beautiful cross from the left side by Courtney Hayer. The Trailblazers were primed to take the lead a few minutes earlier when a Wildcat was called for a foul away from the action in the box. The Trailblazers were awarded a penalty kick, but Natalie Caney's shot sailed high and the game remained scoreless.

The Trailblazers came out aggressive in the second half and started to wear down the Wildcats. Bartlett played well and stopped eight shots in the second half to keep her team even until the Dwyer goal.

SUNYIT had some chances late as Kristina Strang had two excellent chances for the equalizer. Strang shot wide on the first attempt and a few minutes later Trailblazer keeper Kathryn Daly had to make a sprawling save at the post to preserve the shutout.

Hayer played a solid all-around game as did Alexi Anderson.

MCLA had twelve shots on the goal compared to the Wildcats two.

SUNYIT falls to 3-5-1 on the season and will take on Wells at home Saturday at 12:00.

MCLA ascends to 2-5-1 and will look to even up their conference record at home on Saturday versus Salem State, game time is 1:00.
