Women's Soccer blanked at home by Western New England 1-0

North Adams, MA- The visiting Western New England women's soccer team received a goal from Becca Mercieri in the 72nd minute as they went on to defeat the MCLA Trailblazers 1-0 in a non league game played this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.  The Golden Bears even their mark at 5-5-3 while MCLA falls to 3-7-1.

WNE controlled play throughout the afternoon outshooting MCLA 20-2, including 13-0 over the final 45 minutes.  Neither team generated many scoring chances in the opening half as they went into halftime scoreless.

After halftime, WNE really asserted themselves and began pounding the Trailblazer zone.  After creating a corner kick, Karoline Sperber sent a curling ball into the box.  After a scramble in front of the net, Mercieri collected it and pushed it past Katy Daly for a 1-0 lead.  It was her second goal of the season.

MCLA couldn't push the ball forward over the closing minutes as Briana Kubik earned the shutout victory stopping both shots she saw.  Daly kept MCLA in the contest collecting 9 saves on the afternoon.

Western New England also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Framingham State for a MASCAC matchup.
