Women's Soccer set to travel to #3 seed Framingham tomorrow at 7pm

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Worcester State Lancers have earned the top spot in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament which will begin with the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, November 4.

Playing in the first quarterfinal game will be fifth-seeded Bridgewater State at fourth-seeded Salem State at 6 pm while third-seeded Framingham State plays host to sixth-seeded MCLA at 7 pm. The winner of Bridgewater State/ Salem State will play Worcester State Friday, November 7 at 7 pm in the first of two semifinal contests. The other quarterfinal winner of Framingham State/MCLA will travel to Westfield State for a 7 pm start on Friday.

MCLA fell to Framingham in October earlier this season.

The winner of the semifinal games will then play Sunday, November 9 for the MASCAC title and the automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA tournament. The highest remaining seed in the tournament will host the championship game.

Finishing the season undefeated with a 7-0 record in league play, the Lancers claim the top seed and a bye into the semifinals. Alicia Macomber leads the team with 36 points on 15 goals and six assists. Goalie Jillian Witkowski is currently second in the MASCAC in goals against (14), goals against average (1.00) and save percentage (.833).

Landing the second seed in the tournament is Westfield State who closed out the regular season with a 5-1-1 record to earn the other bye into the semifinals. Sarah Sypek is the leading scorer for the Owls with 18 goals which is a tie for first in the conference. She also leads the league in points at 44 and is tied with teammate Ashleigh Chretien with eight assists.

Framingham State is the third seed in the tournament after going 5-2 in league play this season. Isabel DeSouza is tied for first in the conference with 18 goals and leads the league in shots with 92 while teammate Marisa Parent is second with 87.

Earning the fourth seed in the tournament is Salem State with four conference wins on the year. Vikings' goalie Rachel Ledbetter leads the conference in save percentage (.879), goals against (13) and goals against average (0.81).

Closing out the tournament field is Bridgewater State in fifth and MCLA in sixth, respectively. The Bears tallied three league wins during the regular season. The reigning MASCAC tournament champions are led by Mackenzie Hatfield who has 14 goals and three assists for 31 points. The Trailblazers land the sixth spot with two conference victories. Jacklyn Dwyer leads the squad in scoring with eight goals while teammate Alexi Anderson added seven on the year.

During the 2013 championship, Bridgewater State defeated Worcester State 3-1 to earn the MASCAC title and a trip to the NCAA tournament.
