Women’s Soccer Drops MASCAC Opener to Framingham State, 2-0

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— Tarynn Smith's two second half goals led the Framingham State Women's Soccer team to a 2-0 MASCAC victory over host MCLA this afternoon at the Zavattaro Athletic Complex. The Rams earned their first win of the season improving to 1-3 (1-0 MASCAC) while the Trailblazers fall to 1-2-1 (0-1 MASCAC).

MCLA carried most of the play in the first half with their best opportunity coming in the 5th minute when a Gwendolyn Duggan attempt from an Anna Lewis corner stretched Framingham keeper Jetta Oskirko (W, 1-3, eight saves) to her limit having to punch the ball over the crossbar.

The Rams were able to push forward late in the half and after a corner of their own in the 35th minute, it appeared as though they had scored. But a Framingham foul had been committed against MCLA keeper Eva Eberwein (L, 1-2-1, eleven saves) and the teams remained tied until halftime.

Framingham continued to apply pressure coming out of the break and unfortunately for the Trailblazers it ultimately led to an MCLA foul in the box. Tarynn Smith would convert the penalty kick for the Rams in the 56th minute to put the visitors up 1-0.

The Rams didn't let up, outshooting the Trailblazers 19-5 in the second half (22-10 overall). Smith's second goal, which came off a corner in the 87th minute put the game away giving Framingham the 2-0 conference decision.

Framingham State next travels to Western Connecticut on Sunday while MCLA visits Eastern Nazarene next Tuesday at 8pm for a nonconference matchup.
