PLAYER EXPECTATIONS

Commitment:  It is understood that your family and your education are most important. Nonetheless, they should not be used as excuses for a lack of commitment to the team. Your dedication to the program must take priority over all other extra-curricular and social activities.

Punctuality: Arrive early for all team functions. There is no such thing as on time, only early or late.

Accountability: Hold yourself accountable for all of your actions both on and off the field. Soccer can be a humbling sport. Don't try to explain mistakes away. Take ownership of your errors and learn from them.

Competitiveness: Playing time is a privilege, not a right and must be competed for and earned in training. Train and play at game speed all the time. Make yourself and your teammates better each time you train.

Focus: It is understood that there will be high and low points throughout the season and the school year. Try to maintain an even keel in spite of disappointment or triumphs. Leave off-field personal and academic problems off the field. Learn to "cross the line" and elevate your concentration when necessary.

Diligence: Each player is expected to have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Learn something new about the game and its tactics every day. Become a "student of the game".

Professionalism: You are a member of the women's soccer program and a representative of MCLA on and off the field. Avoid any situation that could bring embarrassment to you, your family, the program, or the College.

Character: Conduct yourself with the highest level of character and integrity at all times.  A sign of character is what you do when no one is watching.

Respect: Maintain a high level of respect for coaches, teammates, officials, opponants, and all members of the MCLA community. Remember to receive respect you need to give respect.

Discipline: You must be mature enough to avoid anything that could jeopardize your health or status with the soccer program. Refrain from use and abuse of illegal substances and refrain from inappropriate social behavior.

Perseverance: Respect all the decisions of the coaching staff and captains. There are times when we are going to have to agree to disagree. "Have faith in the course of action chosen for the team and be committed to it, knowing that it may not always be your preference."

Determination: Think, act, and prepare like champions at all times. Expect and endure pain and failure. Strive for excellence and overcome all obstacles on the path to achieving you goals. Learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
