Women's Tennis falls at Sage 6-3

Troy, NY – The Sage College's women's tennis team hosted the Trailblazers of MCLA on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match. The host Gators collected a 6-3 win to improve to 3-6 on the season, having won two of the team's last three matches. MCLA drops to 4-4 on the year.

Sage won first through third singles and was paced by the play of senior co-captain Kirsten Ackerman(Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) as she posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles, besting MCLA's freshmanSarah Mikutowicz (Adams, MA).  Sophomore Erin Duffy (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) added a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles as she beat senior Sarah Murphy (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane). At No. 3 singles, senior Katie Schultz (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) was a 6-3, 6-3 winner beating rookie Mariza Sfakianaki (Williamstown, MA/Mount Greylock).

On the year, Ackerman and Schultz lead Sage with their 8-1 singles records, while Duffy is now 6-3 on the 2014 campaign.  Ackerman and Duffy were also winners at No. 1 doubles as they beat Murphy and Mikutowicz, 8-1. The Gator duo is now 7-0 with one another this fall. With her two wins on Wednesday, Ackerman is now 70-12 on her Gator career.  She is 38-4 in singles play as well at Sage.
