Women's Tennis wins key NAC match over Thomas, improves to 3-1 in league play

Box Score

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Tennis team improved to 3-1 in NAC play with a hard fought 6-3 decision over visiting Thomas College at the Zavattaro complex.  The Trailblazers move a game over .500 at 5-4 with the win.  Thomas falls to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in NAC play.

The Trailblazers started off strong winning a pair of the opening doubles matches.  MCLA won the second and third doubles to jump out to a 2-1 edge.  Mariza Sfakianaki and Emily Deaso won 8-5 and Rebecca Waterhouse and Ama Adwetewa-Badu were victorious by the same score.

MCLA was challenged in the singles matches however.  Deaso and Waterhouse both won in straight sets to increase the Trailblazer lead to 4-1, however Thomas rallied as they earned points out of the top singles slot and in the sixth.

That left a pair of matches to decide things.  The first match featured the second pairing of Sarah Murphy and Lindsey Allen.  Allen cruised in the opening set, but Murphy rallied and came all the way back to earn the three set victory at 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.  The win clinched the match for the Trailblazers.

Sfakianaki was also involved in a key match, one that almost mirrored Murphy's.  She dropped the first set to Dalia Williams 2-6 before winning the final two 6-4, 6-2 to provide the final score.

The Trailblazers will return to action on Monday when they travel to St. Joseph (CT).
