Tennis wins home debut by dropping Sage 7-2

North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's Tennis team picked up their second straight victory by defeating Sage College 7-2 this afternoon at the Zavattaro Athletics complex.  For the second straight match, the Trailblazers swept the doubles matches and then won some hard fought singles contests in moving to 2-0 in the early season.  Sage drops their second straight in falling to 0-2 overall.

The top duo of Emily Deaso and Mariza Sfakianaki cruised by Sage's Alex Faas and Katie Schultz by a score of 8-0 to open play.  First year Taylor Turner and Shelby Gauthier defeated Emily Schultz and Melissa Estremera 8-2 in the second doubles match.  MCLA's Anna Despart and Rebecca Waterhouse easily dispatched the team of Amrita Singh and Lindsey Tolman 8-2 to grab an early 3-0 lead over the Gators.

In singles play, Sage's Katie Schultz defeated Taylor in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 to earn a point for the Gators.  MCLA however, would sweep the next two matches highlighted be Deaso and Sfakianaki.  Deaso overcame a tight first set to win 7-6, 6-3, while Sfakianaki won a hard fought 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 match.

Alex Faas earned the Gators other point winning 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 over Despart in the four hole.  Rebecca Waterhouse and Kylie Dumas rounded out the scoring by earning straight set victories in fifth and sixth singles.

MCLA is back in action on Labor Day when they travel to Becker.
