Sfakianaki earns lone point in MCLA's 8-1 setback to St. Joseph (CT)

North Adams, MA- The visiting St. Joseph's women's tennis program swept through doubles and ultimatlely cruised past MCLA 8-1 this afternoon in non conference action.  With the win, the Bluejays are now 2-0 while the Trailblazers suffer their second straight defeat as they are now 3-2 overall.

USJ cruised in straight sets to all three doubles victories.  Rebecca Mauri and Lucy Roberge won 8-4 in the top doubles slot, while Sakinah Abdulsalam and Ashley Savino won a hard fought 9-8 decision over Taylor Turner and Shelby Gauthier.  USJ would complete the sweep as Leah Nguyen and Natalia Rozio cruised to an 8-1 win.

In singles, Mauri outlasted Emily Deaso 6-7, 7-6, and 10-4 in the top singles position.  Roberge would defeat Taylor Turner in straight sets as well.  Trailblazer Mariza Sfakianaki earned the lone point besting Abdulsalam 2-6, 6-2, and 10-7.

Ashley Savino, Tara Smith, and Serena Sundara all won in straight sets to preserve the victory.

MCLA is back in action on Wednesday when they open NAC play at Lyndon State.
