Women's Tennis falls 7-2 at Castleton in key NAC match

Castleton, VT- The MCLA Women's Tennis team fell this afternoon 7-2 at Castleton in a rematch of last year's NAC semifinals.  The Spartans move to 2-1 in NAC play with the win and are 6-1 overall.  MCLA drops to 5-3 overall and suffers their first NAC loss as they are now 2-1.

Castleton took two out of three singles matches to take the early lead.  The Spartans Sara Novenstern and Jackie Lisak won 8-4 in the top slot while Kirsten Kruk and Ciara Bannister won 8-3 in the second match.  The Trailblazers got on the board when the duo of Rebecca Waterhouse and Anna Despart won 8-4 making it 2-1 in favor of Castleton heading into singles play.

The Spartans extended their lead by winning five of the six singles match, all in straight sets.  MCLA's Emily Deaso earned the lone singles point winning her match 6-2, 6-2 over Novenstern.  Castleton's Lisak defeated Mariza Sfakianaki in the third slot, the loss was the first of the season for Sfakianaki in singles play as she began the season 7-0.

MCLA will look to rebound on Saturday when they host Johnson State at Noon in another key matchup.
