Volleyball sweeps Tri-Match with Becker and Green Mountain

Poultney, VT- Green Mountain College was the victim of 21 service aces which turned out to be the decisive factor in the Eagles 3-1 loss to MCLA in Saturday's non-conference volleyball action at the Eagle Dome.

MCLA (5-4) served up 21 service aces en route to a 25-21, 25-11, 16-25, 27-25 victory over the Eagles as sophomore setter Courtney Parent and junior outside hitter Allie Chang combined for 15 aces between them.

Senior middle hitter Julia Christian led the Trailblazers with eight kills, followed closely by freshman middle hitter Rachel Mills who had seven.  Defensively, it was libero Jackie Paluilis who provided the digs in the backcourt as the sophomore dug up 10 attacks in the victory. Parent led the visitors with 10 assists.

Green Mountain (2-6) benefitted from a well-balanced attack as the Eagles were led by senior outside hitter Kara Egan who recorded nine kills, junior middle hitter Madison Wage with seven kills, sophomore outside hitter Megan Roy with six, and both Jennifer Seredejko and Torie Cowell notched four kills each.  Freshman libero Celeste Bowers powered all defensive players with 14 digs while Roy managed to bring up nine attacks.

Green Mountain will be back on the hard court again on next Saturday as the team travels down the road to Castleton to take on SUNY Canton and Gordon.  MCLA will be back in action it takes on Elms on Thursday

MCLA used 20 services aces and a phenomenal performance from senior middle hitter Sam Anderson to earn a 3-1 victory over Becker College on Saturday in non-conference volleyball action at the Eagle Dome.

Anderson hit at a lofty .550 clip which resulted in 13 kills as the Trailblazers came from a 1-0 set deficit to beat the Hawks 21-25, 25-21, 25-14 and 25-23. She also added six service aces and a solo and assisted block.

MCLA (4-4) struggled out of the gate in the first set as the team's timing was not quite ready for Becker who had just come off of a game against Green Mountain.  The Trailblazers started to find their rhythm in the second set and honed it in the third and fourth to earn the match victory.
 
Supporting Anderson on the attack for MCLA was junior outside hitter Allie Chang who totaled nine kills.  Sophomore Jackie Paluilis matched a game-high with 10 digs while senior middle hitter Kendra Hobbs pitched in with nine digs.  MCLA as a team outserved Becker earning a 20-4 advantage on service aces.
 
Leading the way for Becker (0-7) was freshman middle hitter Marissa Turner who recorded nine kills and 10 digs.  Katelyn Burns, the Hawks' senior outside hitter, contributed five kills and eight digs, while junior setter Lauren LaVallee registerd a game-high 15 assists.
