Volleyball sweeps opening Tri-Match, defeats GMC and Castleton

Castleton, VT- The visiting MCLA Trailblazers swept a season opening tri-match this afternoon as they defeated Green Mountain College 3-0, before handling Castleton 3-1 in the nightcap.  The match marked the openers for all schools.

MCLA cruised in the opener as the won by scores of 25-4, 25-10, and 25-11 over GMC.  Samantha Anderson led the way with seven kills, while Brianne O'Rourke chipped in with six of her own.  Anderson hit .700 in the opening victory.  Chenelle Enomoto collected a team best 7 assists in the opener.

In the match with Castleton, the Trailblazers got off to another fast start winning the first two games 25-11 and 25-14.  The Spartans would rally to take the third game, but MCLA closed them out with a 25-17 win to clinch the sweep.

Maggie Allen was outstanding as she notched 13 kills in 23 attacks.  O'Rourke continued her solid day as she would finish with 9 kills.  Anderson was also a threat as she collected seven kills in the nightcap.

Courtney Parent had a nice game finishing with 19 assists, while Enomoto chipped in with 14.  

The Trailblazers will look to continue the hot start on Friday when they travel to Southern Vermont to battle the Mountaineers at 7pm.
