MCLA Breezes in Tri-Match

The MCLA Trailblazers have won three straight after breezing through Maine-Fort Kent and Lyndon State in today's non-conference tri-match.

The Trailblazers' first game of the day proved to be the toughest as the Bengals gave MCLA all they could handle before bowing out 27-25. The back and forth affair was hanging in the balance until Rachel Mills asserted herself down the stretch. Mills had several big kills in the waning moments to ensure the Trailblazers got off to a good start. Four of her match high fifteen kills late tied or kept the Trailblazers in the lead . MCLA never really looked back from there.

MCLA won game two 25-19, dropped the third game 25-20, but closed it out in game four with a 25-18 win. The Bengals were down 24-12 in game four before rallying with six straight points, before a close call on an attack from Danielle Carrillo went the Trailblazers way.

Newcomers Brianne O'Rourke had nine kills in the victory and Margaret Allen added seven.  Courtney Parent led the Trailblazers with twenty-five assists and added four of the Trailblazers eleven service aces.

The defense was led by the quartet of Rebecca Godbout, Jackie Paluilis, Angelica Perfido and Allie Chang.

Carrillo played extremely well for the Bengals in defeat accumulating twenty kills and twenty digs. Jessekah McCorkle added twenty-seven assists.

The Trailblazers closed out there afternoon sweep with a 3-0 victory over Lyndon State.  MCLA was again led by Mills who had eight kills as Coach Beckwith used most of her roster in the final match of the day. MCLA used a run midway through the first game to break it open and cruised to a 25-15 victory. They closed out the match versus the Hornets by scores of 25-12 and 25-16.

Chanielle Enomoto had ten assists  and Paluilis led with nine digs. Michelle Laga also added seven digs.  MCLA had fourteen service aces in the match and twenty-seven for the afternoon.

Lyndon was led by Abbey Greene with five kills for the offense. Liz Manville had fifteen digs.

Maine Fort-Kent defeated Lyndon State in the other match of the day by scores of 25-8, 25-10 and 25-17.

UMFK is 5-2 on the season and Lyndon State concludes the day at 2-4. MCLA is now 5-3 on the year and will travel to Elms on Thursday to take on the Blazers at 6:00.
