Volleyball sweeps Rams, moves into first place on historic night

Framingham, MA- The MCLA Volleyball team went into Framingham looking to make a statement in the MASCAC as both teams were unbeaten in league play.  The Trailblazers put together their best performance of the season as they swept the Rams 3-0 to claim sole possession of first place within the MASCAC.  The trio of Allison Clark, Rachel Mills, and Angelica Perfido combined to lead MCLA with 30 kills.

With the win, the Trailblazers also set a new program record for wins by earning the 16th win of the season which breaks the mark set one year ago.  MCLA now stands at 16-7 overall and 3-0 in the MASCAC.  The Rams drop to 17-5 and are 3-1 in the conference.

MCLA started fast as they were never threatened in the opening set taking a 25-18 win.  In the second set, the Trailblazers once again started fast and led 19-11 before the Rams came storming back.  They cut the margin to just 22-21, but an Allison Clark kill stemmed the tide and the Trailblazers went on to take the set 25-22.  MCLA cruised in set three earning the final three points to win 25-16 and close out the match.

Clark was once again outstanding as she notched a team best 11 kills and 17 digs. Classmate Rachel Mills had her best game of the season collecting 10 kills on 23 attacks, while Angelica Perfido chipped in with 9 kills and 10 digs.  Courtney Parent set up the trio all night with 17 assists and Beatrice Lechler added 13 of her own.

For the Rams, they were paced by Alycia Rackliffe's match best 12 kills on 25 attacks.  Julia Wan added 9 kills in the loss.  Sarah Leonard added 26 assists, while Danielle Girard and Megan Leavens added 12 and 10 digs respectively.

The Trailblazers earned their first win over the Rams since the 2010 season and are in a good position heading into the stretch run of the season.  MCLA will look to stay unblemished in league play on Saturday when they host Salem State at 11am.  Prior to that contest, MCLA will host SUNY Delhi in the opener of the Tri Match.
