Beckwith named MASCAC Coach of the Year

North Adams, MA- The accolades for the MCLA Volleyball program continue to roll in.  As announced by the league offices this afternoon, Trailblazer head coach Amanda Beckwith has been selected as the MASCAC Coach of the Year.  It marks the first time in her career that Beckwith has received this honor.

Beckwith has guided the Trailblazers to their best season in school history.  MCLA stands at 22-9 and earned a share of their first ever regular season conference championship last weekend with a win over Bridgewater.  The win over the Bears also marked the first time in school history that MCLA defeated BSU.

Beckwith's Trailblazers will host the semifinal and final rounds of the MASCAC championship this Saturday in the Amsler Campus Center Gym beginning with MCLA's game at Noon.  The Trailblazers await the winner of sixth seeded Salem State and third seeded Bridgewater State as that game is tonight.

As part of the historic season, MCLA ran off 13 straight wins, which was another school record, in September.  The momentum carried over into conference play as the team went 5-1 and by virtue of beating Framingham State earned the top seed in this week's tournament.

Prior to this season, the school record for victories was Beckwith's 17 win team a few years back, however that team never advanced in the postseason.  Beckwith and the Trailblazers hope to keep making history on Saturday afternoon.
