Scattergood's busy summer culminates with Chiefs Internship

North Adams, MA—The saying states "time flies when you're having fun."  In the case of MCLA Volleyball senior Reagan Scattergood, time is going at light speed!   The rising senior has attended a pair of virtual leadership conferences and now is gearing up for a month long internship with the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs.

While most students enjoy their first few weeks of summer vacation, Scattergood was selected to participate in the NCAA's Career in Sports Forum.  Even though it was virtual due to the pandemic, Scattergood reflected fondly on her opportunity.

"It really opened my eyes to some wonderful opportunities to listen to some influential athletic personalities," Scattergood said.  "I really took a lot from what Ole Miss Women's basketball coach Yo (Yolett McPhee-McCuin) had to say."

After attending the forum, Scattergood would then participate in the NCAA Student Athlete Leadership Training (SALT) program.  SALT took place in an interactive virtual environment June 17-18. The training was created to provide 200 participants with opportunities to discover their leadership qualities and identity. The curriculum was designed to develop foundational understanding of self-awareness and the impact it has on one's ability to influence others.

The opportunity to network and hear from other students from around the country was not lost on Scattergood.

"To be able to connect with other athletes, many who shared similar stories and career goals to mine, was invaluable," the senior said reflecting on the training.

As a result of the two virtual sessions, Scattergood was motivated to search for a summer internship that would challenge her.  She then found the Kansas City Chiefs preseason internship program.  After an application and interview process, the Chiefs took on Scattergood, who reports to training camp in just one week.

The internship runs for a month as the reigning AFC Champions prepare to get back to the Super Bowl.  Scattergood's main duties will be around the fan experience, specifically working with the Chiefs Kids Club.  Scattergood, who has been involved with SAAC and numerous community service projects at MCLA, will call upon those experiences to assist her with the Chiefs.

Scattergood is entering her final season at MCLA and has been a contributor since she stepped onto campus.  She was an All MASCAC second team selection in 2019, which also was the last time the Trailblazers competed. The senior will be counted on to lead the team in 2021.
