Volleyball takes 3-2 decision over SUNY Delhi in season opener

Delhi, NY- MCLA's Chloie Garber (Eagle River, AK) notched 17 kills while teammate Ellie Walter-Goodspeed (Auburn, WA) collected 16 digs as they led the Trailblazers to a thrilling 3-2 season opening victory over SUNY Delhi.

This was a highly contested, back and forth affair with each squad trading the first four sets.

Delhi jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set and though MCLA would close the gap to two late, the Broncos would close it out 25-21.

The second set was nip and tuck tied at 20 all before MCLA would go on a 5-0 run to pull even in the match at a set a piece.  Delhi would take the third set by the same 25-20 score, but in much different fashion as they would have a comfortable lead throughout.

MCLA would again answer back in the fourth as they took the lead at 18-17 and were able to hold on to take the set 25-23 setting up the final and decisive fifth.

The Trailblazers jumped out to an early 4-2 lead as Shannon O'Brien (Unionville, CT) helped the cause with a pair of back-to-back kills. Delhi would then rattle off four straight to take the lead at 6-4. MCLA would answer with a 3-point run of their own taking back the lead at 9-6 on a Garber kill.

Delhi would make one final push cutting the lead to one at 11-10 however, MCLA would score the final four points taking the set 15-10 and the match 3 sets to 2.

Garber would finish with 12 digs to go along with her 17 kills. O'Brien had 7 kills and 15 digs.

Delhi's Stephanie Burke led the Broncos with 16 kills and 19 digs.

Delhi (0-1) will next be in action Saturday as they travel to Worcester to take on Husson and WPI in a tri-match. MCLA (1-0) will also be in action Saturday as they travel to Cazenovia for a 7pm match.
