Volleyball Sweeps SUNY Poly in Nonconference Action

NORTH ADAMS, Mass— The MCLA Volleyball team was all business today handling the SUNY Poly Wildcats in straight sets 25-16, 25-13 and 25-23.  With the victory the Trailblazers improve to 5-2 while the Wildcats are still in search of their first win now sitting at 0-7.

MCLA established early leads in each of first two sets.  The Trailblazers jumped out to a ten-point advantage in the first capped off by a Chloie Garber kill to make it 13-3. The Wildcats cut the deficit to six on several occasions, but MCLA was too strong down the stretch taking the set 25-16.

Garber went on an 8-0 service run to begin the second set which forced a Wildcat timeout. MCLA remained unfazed however and was never challenged cruising to a 25-13 win and a commanding 2-0 match lead.

In an extremely competitive third set neither team was able to pull away. SUNY Poly looked like they had taken control late going up 20-16 but MCLA would respond with three straight to cut the lead to one after a timeout. Consecutive kills by Poly's Rylie Reynolds and Samanta Dee put the Wildcats up 22-19. A four-point MCLA run on Shannon O'Brien's serve put the Trailblazers up 23-22. Poly tied the set at 23-23 but a service error and match point kill by MCLA's Elizabeth Brown secured the set and the sweep.

Anais Badio led the Trailblazers with 10 kills. Brown added 7 kills and four digs. O'Brien finished with 8 digs and fourteen assists while Garber registered a career-high 7 aces to go along with five digs.

SUNY Poly is off until next Saturday when they host Old Westbury. MCLA is back in action on Tuesday when they host New England College at 6pm.
