Volleyball Bust Broncos in Four Sets

North Adams, Mass.-- Elizabeth Brown had a game-high 13 kills to pace a balanced Trailblazers attack in a three sets to one victory against the visitors from SUNY Delhi. The win improves their record to 7-2 on the season.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Friday, September 22, 2023
  • Score: SUNY Delhi 1, MCLA 3
  • Records: SUNY Delhi Broncos 2-7 | MCLA Trailblazers 7-2

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The first set was a back-and-forth affair featuring eight ties, and neither team could separate themselves from the other. Multiple times, the lead would grow to as much as three before the other team would storm back. The final run, though, would belong to the Trailblazers, who, following a Bronco's time out, scored three straight points capped by a pair of kills from Brown.
  • In the second set, the Trailblazers were able to impose their will on the Broncos. They opened the set with a 4-0 run that was finished by a service ace by Chloie Garber. It was another three-point run to close out the set, thanks to a kill from Garber and a pair of attack errors by the Broncos.
  • The Broncos were not to be deterred though, winning the third set that wasn't nearly as competitive as the 25-20 score would imply. A set opening 11-2 run gave the visitors a sufficient cushion to hold on despite the Trailblazers out-scoring them 21 to 14 from that point forward.
  • Building off of that 21-14 run to finish the third set, the Trailblazers again ran away from the Broncos, building double-digit leads three times during the set.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • While Brown led the team with a career-high 13 kills, the Trailblazers got nine, eight, and seven kills from Garber, Makenna Carter, and Audrey Melson, respectively.
  • Garber also recorded a game-high 15 digs, tying her season high that she first did against Vermont State Castleton on September 13th. Brown followed her with 14 digs, and Ezmeralda Albright tacked on 10.
  • The Trailblazers made the most of their 10-9 advantage in service aces, again led by Garber with four. She has recorded 20 aces over the course of the last four games.
