Volleyball Finishes Sage in Four Sets, Wins Sixth Straight

North Adams, Mass.— The MCLA Volleyball team won their sixth straight match with a 3-1 nonconference decision over the Sage Gators this afternoon at the Amsler Campus Center.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Saturday, September 23, 2023

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tied 4-4 in the first, MCLA grabbed an early lead, which they would not relinquish, pulling away 25-17 to take the 1-0 set advantage.
  • Chloie Garber went on a 6-0 service run to start the second, with MCLA stretching their lead to 13-4, forcing a Sage timeout. The Gators went on an 11-4 run to trim the deficit to 17-15, but the Trailblazers closed the set out on an 8-4 run of their own to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
  • Sage led 8-3 and 14-9 in the third before a 15-3 MCLA run made it 24-17. The Gators proceeded to fight off seven straight match points and ultimately took the set 29-27 to avoid the sweep.
  • In an equally competitive fourth set with the score tied at 23-23, kills by Elizabeth Brown and Shannon O'Brien clinched the 3-1 victory for the Trailblazers.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Salvione posted a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs for Sage.
  • Garber led the way for MCLA with ten kills and nine digs to go along with eight service aces. Brown finished with seven kills and seventeen digs.
  • Ezmerelda Albright and Ellie Walter-Goodspeed led the defensive effort with 14 and 12 digs, respectively.

MCLA next heads to the Woodward Center on the campus at Westfield State on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. MASCAC season-opening match with the Owls.
