Volleyball Win Streak Comes to Close in 3-2 Loss to Owls

Westfield, Mass.—The MCLA Volleyball team saw their six-game winning streak snapped this evening by the Westfield State Owls in their MASCAC opener by a score of 3-2. After dropping the first set 25-16, the Trailblazers won the next two (25-22 and 28-26) but could not close the deal, falling in the last two sets (25-20 and 16-14).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Elizabeth Brown recorded a game-high 18 kills and added in a service ace and an assisted block, accounting for a game-high 19.5 points.
  • Chloie Garber also recorded double-digit points on the strength of 15 kills and an assisted block for 15.5 points. Garber also helped on the defensive end, recording a game-high 28 digs. The Trailblazers held a 112-99 edge in digs.
  • Rounding out the double-digit scoring club for the Trailblazers were Anais Badio (13 points) and Audrey Melson (10.5 points).
  • Shannon O'Brien was the leading helper for the Trailblazers, recording a team-high 28 assists, while Beth Harris was second with 18 assists.
  • Bridgette McAndrews paced the host Owls, 20.5 points on team-highs of 17 kills and three service aces to go with an assisted block.

UP NEXT:

MCLA will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Cobleskill, NY, for the SUNY Cobleskill Homecoming Classic and matchups with the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions and the Wells College Express at the Iorio Gymnasium. The matches are scheduled for 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
