Volleyball Sweep Tri-match with Nittany Lions & Express

Westfield, Mass.—As part of the SUNY Cobleskill Homecoming Classic, the Trailblazers came home with victories over Penn State-Abington (3-0) and Wells College (3-2).

THE BASICS:

HIGHLIGHTS

  • MCLA won their first matchup of the day against Penn State-Abington (PSA) in straight sets. After dropping the first point of the first set, the Trailblazers would be no worse than tied with the Nittany Lions at any point in all three sets.
  • The second game of the day for the Trailblazers was the more competitive matchup, with the Wells College Express taking to a full five sets. The Trailblazers won the first two sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-20, with strong hitting percentages of .542 and .364. The Express evened the match at two sets apiece by scores of 25-19 and 25-20. The Trailblazers reasserted control in the fifth set, finishing the game on a 10-3 run to win 15-12.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game #1)

  • Chloie Garber had a career game in the match with PSA, recording a game-high six services aces while also recording eight kills on only 15 attacks, good for a .467 hitting percentage. Her game was not only about offense, as she added 11 digs, trailing her teammate Ellie Walter-Goodspeed, who had a game-high 14 digs.
  • Elizabeth Brown remained hot, scoring double-digit points for the fifth time in six games on the strength of nine kills and two service aces.
  • Shannon O'Brien was the leading helper for the Trailblazers, recording a team-high 16 assists, while Beth Harris was second with ten assists.
  • Jayla Hickey paced the Nittany Lions 12 points on seven kills, four service aces, and two assisted blocks.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game #2)

  • Anais Badio saw Garber's career game in the first match and decided the second game would be hers. She recorded a career-high 19 kills on 32 attacks, a .531 hitting percentage. Combined with her service ace and assisted block, she totaled a game-high 20.5 points.
  • Garber didn't let up in the second game either, recording 11 kills to tie with Audrey Melson for second on the team. Garber added five service aces to finish with 16 points.

UP NEXT:

MCLA will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Anna Maria College for a matchup with the AMCATS at the Fuller Gymnasium. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
