Volleyball Cruises Past Mass Maritime

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— Off to its best start since 2015, the MCLA Volleyball team made short work of MASCAC rival Mass Maritime in the Trailblazers annual Dig Pink Game sweeping the Bucs 25-19, 25-18, 25-12 to earn their first conference win of the season.

THE BASICS:

  • Records: Mass Maritime Buccaneers 3-12 (MASCAC 0-2) | MCLA Trailblazers 12-3 (MASCAC 1-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Tied 11-11, the Trailblazers jumped ahead and incrementally increased their lead until ultimately taking the first set, 25-19.
  • The Bucs made a push in the second set cutting the MCLA lead to 19-18, but after a side out and a five-point Ellie Walter-Goodspeed service run, the hosts found themselves up two sets to none with the 25-18 win.
  • There would be no let up in the third as the Trailblazers jumped out to an early 13-5 lead and dominated down the stretch winning the set 25-12 earning the 3-0 sweep.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • MCLA's Anais Badio finished with a game-high 10 kills (.667 hitting percentage) and added three service aces while teammate Elizabeth Brown led all players with 10 digs adding eight kills (.438 hitting percentage). Chloie Garber had a strong performance with 9 kills (.444 hitting percentage) and six digs.
  • Shannon O'Brien had a game high 14 assists with Beth Harris close behind with thirteen helpers.
  • Mass Maritime's Maro Stark led the Bucs with 6 kills and seven digs.

MCLA next travels to Fitchburg State's Parkinson Gymnasium on Wednesday for another MASCAC matchup with the Falcons at 6pm
