Volleyball Fly Past Fitchburg State in Straight Sets

FITCHBURG, Mass.— The MCLA Volleyball team took down Fitchburg State 3-0 this evening, improving their MASCAC record to 2-1.

THE BASICS:

 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Trailblazers enforced their will on the Falcons starting with the first set, jumping out to a 16-2 early lead thanks to a five-point service run by Chloe Garber that opened with a service ace and an eight-point service run by Ezmeralda Albright that pushed the lead to 14-1.
  • MCLA saw more resistance from Fitchburg in the second set, which included six ties and six lead changes. Sophomore outside hitter recorded six of her game-high 12 kills and the team's 19 kills in the set.
  • The third set was more of a back-and-forth affair, with the Falcons taking an early lead before the Trailblazers stormed back to take a nine-point lead multiple times, including as late as 22-13. Despite a late rally, the hosts fell short, and the Trailblazers held on for a 25-19 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The 19 kills that the Trailblazers recorded in the second set was a season-high, topping the 16 kills they have recorded three other times, most recently against Wells College on September 30th. It is the highest kill total that the team has had since recording 20 against Worcester State on October 22, 2015.
  • Brown finished the game with 12 kills on 24 attacks and a hitting percentage of .417. She also tied with Chloie Garber and a pair of Falcons players with a game-high 14 digs.

On Tuesday, MCLA will be back in action when they play host to Framingham State for a MASCAC matchup with the Rams at the Amsler Campus Center Gym. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
