North Adams, MA-- The MCLA Athletics Department hosted their 31st annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration over the weekend.  In 2020, the event was split into two separate days.  On Saturday, the department hosted 20 girls while on Sunday the Trailblazers welcomed 37 women to campus.  The event is held in celebration of the national date, which is Wednesday, February 5th and put on by the Women's Sports Foundation.

February 5, 2020, marks the 34th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) nationwide. This celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. The confidence, strength and character gained through sports participation are the very tools girls and women need to become strong leaders in sports and life.   In 2020, the theme is "Lead her Forward."

At MCLA, the celebration on Saturday included a variety of clinics hosted by our student-athletes and coaches.  Girls participated in clinics for Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, and were guests of the women's basketball program for their contest with Bridgewater State.

On Sunday, 37 women took part in Pickleball, one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
