MCLA Golf Classic nets $24,000 for Athletics, honors former coach Ron Shewcraft

Pittsfield, MA- The MCLA Athletics golf classic was held yesterday under sunny skies at Berkshire Hills Country Club in Pittsfield, MA. The classic benefits the student athletes and athletics programs at the college. This year, the committee honored longtime Men's Soccer Coach Ron Shewcraft, along with the Men's and Women's Soccer programs.

This year's event raised over $24,000 for Athletics and will directly benefit the Shewcraft Field Lights Initiative, which is in its final stages.

The 18 hole scramble format drew a field of 30 teams competing for gross and net prizes. True North Financial won the gross event with an amazing score of -19 under par 53. The Berkshire Wealth Advisors team won the Net division with a score of 54.3.

Shewcraft was the focal point of the banquet as he led the men's program for 29 years as head coach. He was inducted into the MCLA hall of fame in February of 2014 and his 1978 team advanced to the NCAA Final Four, the only appearance in school history. To culminate his career, in 2007 MCLA named their new turf facilily Ron Shewcraft field.

A few years later, the Shewcraft Field Lights Initiative was born. The initiative to construct lights over the turf field has been on going for two years. The college has set a goal of December 2015 to raise the needed funds to erect the structures. As stated earlier, the funds raised at the classic will go toward that goal.

Petri Contracting once again served as the President's Club Title sponsor. This is the second consecutive year that Jay Petri has taken on the lead role.
