MCLA falls to St. Norbert in RussMatt invitational 8-4
Winter Haven, Fl- The MCLA Baseball team fell to 1-1 on the season with an 8-4 setback this afternoon in the RussMatt Invitational against St. Norbert. The Trailblazers were outhit 12-5 as the Saints also stole six bases.
St. Norbert jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage against MCLA starter, sophomore Daniel Gaines (Holyoke, MA). Gaines had some control issues as he walked three batters and hit another in his 2 1/3 innings. He surrendered all five early runs as MCLA fell in the hole.
After freshmen Josh Gould (Adams, MA) relieved Gaines, MCLA would mount a rally as some Knights miscues led to three unearned runs cutting the deficit to 5-3 after four complete. MCLA would threaten for more in the top of the fifth putting the first two runners on, but Eddie George (Falls Church, VA) lined into a double play to quell the rally.
Junior Paul Procopio led the Trailblazers with a pair of hits while Osiris Mendez drove in a pair of runs with a double.
MCLA is back in action tomorrow when they play UMass-Boston in a doubleheader.
