MCLA drops a pair to UMass Dartmouth

Winter Haven, Fl- The MCLA baseball team dropped a pair of games to UMass Dartmouth by scores of 5-4 in game one, and 7-3 in the nightcap.  MCLA falls to 1-3 on the season.

In the opener, MCLA starter Rick Massey (Cheshire, MA) threw five strong innings.  He scattered two hits in his five innings and only allowed a leadoff homer in his first outing of the season. 

MCLA took a 4-1 lead after five innings as they scored three times to break a 1-1 tie.  Eddie George (Falls Church, Va), Paul Procopio (Pittsfield, MA), and Joe Parillo (West Springfield, MA) all had RBI doubles in the inning. 

After the Corsairs tallied an unearned run in the sixth, they eventually took the lead with a three run uprising in the seventh.  With MCLA down a run in their last at bat, the put the first two runners on in the last half inning.  A strange bunt play ensued when Osiris Mendez' (Richmond Hill, NY) popped up bunt was bobbled allowing the Corsairs to force a runner at second base.  With one out and runners at the corners, Brenden Wyand (Pittsfield, MA) lifted a fly ball to right for the second out and a late break from Procopio at third allowed UMD to tag him out for the final out of the game. 

George and Parillo each had a pair of hits in the loss.

In game two, MCLA could not mount much offense and found themselves down 6-0 thru five innings.  A three run outburst in the sixth provided some hope, but the Corsairs added another run in the bottom half to finish off the sweep. 

Mike Meaney (North Adams, MA) had an RBI double in the loss.  Junior Sean Hermance took the loss for the Trailblazers.

MCLA rounds out the Florida swing with another DH tomorrow against UMass Boston at 9:30am
