MCLA falls to #14 UMass-Boston 15-7

Auburndale, Fl- MCLA lost its third straight game on their annual spring trip, falling to 14th ranked UMass-Boston 15-7.  With the loss, MCLA is now 2-3 on the season while the Beacons earned their first win of the season and are now 1-3.

After MCLA grabbed an early 1-0 lead following a John Ripepi leadoff triple, UMB responded with a pair of Trailblazer starter Mike Bullett in the bottom half.  MCLA tied in the top of the 2nd but left the bases loaded.  UMB exploded for nine runs over the next two frames to go up 11-2 after three full innings.  The big blow was a 2 run homer from Beacons second baseman Ryan Walsh.

MCLA reliever Joe Vaverka kept the Trailblazers in the game as they trimmed the margin to 11-7 after seven innings.  The Beacons put the game away using the benefit of three walks and a hit batter to close out MCLA 15-7.

Ripepi finished the day going 2-3 with a pair of runs scored and stolen bases.  Osiris Mendez and Bobby Beauchesne each added a pair of hits in defeat.

Walsh finished with three hits, three runs scored, and four runs batted in.  Beacons starter Mike Gambill earned the win off the mound.

MCLA returns to action on Wednesday when they play Hamilton in a doubleheader.
