MCLA holds on in season opener vs. SUNY-IT, win 6-4 in rain shortened contest

Auburndale, FL- Michael Sullivan had a pair of hits and teammate Joe Duncan had three RBI's in MCLA's season opening 6-4 win over SUNY-IT at Lake Myrtle Park.  The game was shortened to six innings due to rain.

With the win, MCLA is now 1-0 while the Wildcats drop to 0-8 on the season.

The Wildcats scored first pushing a run across in the top of the second off MCLA starter Daniel Gaines for a 1-0 lead.  The Trailblazers would answer with four runs in the bottom half of the inning capped off by Sullivan's RBI single.  Duncan added a run scoring walk, while Rick Massey drove in a run with an infield single.

MCLA grabbed two more in the bottom of the third to take charge as Duncan doubled in a pair of runs scoring Sean Coyle, who had doubled earlier, and Cody Weaver.

SUNY-IT rallied off of Gaines with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. 

Gaines would not allow a run in the sixth before bad weather moved in to finish off the game.

The senior left-hander earned the win going six innings, striking out four and walking a pair.  He gave up eight hits.

Sullivan was the only player with two hits for MCLA.  The Trailblazers did steal four bases in the win.  Both teams collected eight hits in the contest.

Patrick Baker took the loss for the Wildcats going the first five innings and giving up six runs.

MCLA will return to action on Sunday when they challenge Lesley University.
