MCLA earns spilt against Falcons

Leominster, MA- The Trailblazers opened up conference play this afternoon in Leominster as they took on the Falcons of Fitchburg State. Fitchburg won the first game 2-1 before MCLA fought to win the second 4-3.

MCLA started out scoring first in the bottom of the first inning on an unearned run. Tyler Beniot reached on an error scoring J.T. Ferraro.

Neither team scored the rest of the way until the top of the seventh inning when Fitchburg hit a 2 run homer with one out to take the lead. MCLA would threathen in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and third but Joe Duncan lined out to end the game.

Beniot would take the loss on the mound while Pat Mericer earned the win.

Game two went the Trailblazers way. In the third inning MCLA scored 4 runs, 3 runs scored on a double by Beniot.

Fitchburg answered in the sixth inning scoring three runs. With MCLA leading 4-3 Fitchburg threathened to score as they had runners on first and second but a 4-6-3 double play ended the inning. Fitchburg again had a chance to tie the game when their lead off hitter got to second, advanced to third on a ground ball out. Winning pitcher Ross Miner then walked the next batter. With two outs Fitchburg had runners on first and third but a diving catch by Chase Preite ended the game.

Miner pitched a complete game for the Trailblazers and earned the win.

The Trailblazers will travel to Union on Tuesday for a 3:30 start.
