Baseball drops road tilt at RPI

Troy, NY- The MCLA baseball team traveled to Troy, NY to battle RPI in non league action Tuesday afternoon.  The host Engineers used a five run fourth and an eight run fifth inning to seize control and cruise past the Trailblazers 17-3.  RPI improves to 13-7 overall while MCLA drops to just 2-14.

MCLA grabbed the lead early when Jared Gersch doubled home Mike Mancivalano who also doubled.  The hosts would tie the game in the bottom of the second when Chuck Erickson would belt the first of his two homers to knot the game at 1.

After Joe Duncan's RBI groundout gave MCLA a 2-1 edge, Erickson would blast his second home run to again tie the score.  From there, it was all RPI.

Using the aid of two key errors in the fourth, RPI sent 10 men to the plate and scored five times (four unearned) off MCLA starter Cody Weaver.  Leading 7-2, RPI then tallied eight runs in the fifth and never looked back.

RPI outhit MCLA 18-9 on the afternoon led by Erickson, who also added a bases loaded double.

MCLA was led by Mancivalano who would tally three safeties on the day.

Weaver was tagged with the loss while Ryan Roberge went 5 1/3 innings to earn the win.

MCLA is back in action tomorrow when they host Southern Vermont at 4pm.
