Five run seventh dooms MCLA at Springfield, fall 7-4

Springfield, Mass. - April 29, 2013 - The Springfield College baseball team used five runs in the seventh to rally past MCLA, 7-4, in a non-conference dual at Berry-Allen Field on Monday afternoon.

Springfield now stands at 13-18, and MCLA drops to 4-26.

Shane O'Leary and Mike McGowan each had two hits in the contest, and Louis Ballas and Steve Starr registered a pair of RBI. Starter Alex Williams took the no-decision after allowing four earned runs off seven hits in 4.1 innings. Travis Lane came in to relief as was awarded the victory, tossing 3.2 innings of hitless ball.

Mike Mancivalano started for the Trailblazers and earned a no-decision in 5.2 innings Trailblazers, giving up two earned runs off four hits and fanning six. Jared Gersch shouldered the loss and registering three earned runs in just 2/3 of an inning. Alon Willing had two hits on the afternoon and Joe Duncan drove in a pair of runs.

MCLA struck for three runs in the second inning to seize early control of the game, with Duncan roping a two-run single to center. Cody Weaver led off the fourth with a base knock to left, stole second, and then came around to score on Willing's single.

The Pride started its rally in the fourth as Billy Paskowski was hit by a pitch, took second and third on a wild pitch, and crossed the plate after Jared Hopkins delivered a single. With two outs in the sixth, Ryan Gower walked and swiped second to get into scoring position. Springfield added its second run thanks to a double from O'Leary.

In the seventh inning with the bases juice, Starr blasted a double to tie the game at four. Ballas then followed with a two-run single to put Springfield on top for the first time, and a McGowan provided the hosts with an insurance run on a single to right.

MCLA will conclude their season at home on Wednesday vs. Elms at 4pm.
