Baseball swept in doubleheader by ENC after game two rally falls short

Quincy, MA- The MCLA Trailblazers baseball team dropped a pair of games this afternoon to Eastern Nazarene College.  They fell in the opener 4-1 before the Lions held them off in the nightcap 4-3.  The Trailblazers are now 3-8 on the season while ENC is 11-6.

Game Two-

The Lions jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage off MCLA starter Todd Hunt after just three innings.  Wagner singled to drive in the games' first run and Nick Story doubled to right center which drove in a pair to make it 3-0 after three.

MCLA would get on the board in the fourth when Liam Nolan would double and come around to score on Nate Alibozek's single to center cutting it to 3-1.  ENC would add a key run in the bottom of the sixth off MCLA reliever Robert Jutras to take a 4-1 lead before the Trailblazers mounted a rally in the seventh.

Nate Alibozek walked to begin the inning and Slayter Aubin reached on an error putting runners on the corners.  After an out, Joe Dimassimo knocked them both home with a double making it 4-3 and putting the tying run in scoring position.  ENC's Ben Peterson would come on and record a strikeout and groundout to end the ball game and preserve the victory.

Cameron Fiorentino earned the win for the Lions tossing 6.2 innings and yielding just five hits and two earned runs.

Todd Hunt was tagged with the loss for MCLA allowing the three runs in his five innings of work.

Game One-

In the opener, ENC would strike for all the runs they'd need in the bottom of the first inning.  They scored three times on three hits.  Jeremy Wagner drove in the first run after a double and Brandon Wynne singled driving Wagner in.  Wynne would come around to score on a wild pitch from Trailblazer starter Liam Nolan.

MCLA would get a run back in the top of the second on a two out RBI double from Nick DiSanti bringing home Myles Candelet cutting the deficit to 3-1.  From there, Nolan would cruise and keep ENC at bay over the next five frames.  He would allow just one hit over those five innings until he finally yielded another run in the sixth making it 4-1.

The Trailblazer offense struggled to get things going all day long and went quietly in the seventh giving the hosts the game one win.  Brett Houle went the distance for ENC giving up just three hits while striking out 5 batters.

Nolan was tagged with the loss going the distance and allowing 6 hits and all four runs.  He struck out three hitters.

The Trailblazers are back in action on Thursday when they host Southern Vermont at 3:30pm.
