Baseball swept in MASCAC twinbill by Fitchburg State

North Adams, MA- Fitchburg State's duo of Tommy Parsons and Javier Lozada threw complete games and allowed just six hits all afternoon in leading the Falcons past the MCLA baseball team 6-1 and 12-0 in the nightcap.  With the victories, the Falcons improve to 11-14 overall and sit at 4-2 in conference play.  The Trailblazers drop their tenth straight games as they are now 3-16 overall and 0-6 in the MASCAC.

In the opener, the Falcons would waste little time in getting on the board.  Andrew Currie led off the game with a single to center and Lozada followed suit with another putting runners at the corners.  Lozada would steal second base on the next pitch, and then Currie would score on a wild pitch that moved Lozada to third.  He would come around to score on Brenden Cutler's RBI double off MCLA starting pitcher Liam Nolan.

From there, the story was Parsons.  Through four innings he allowed just one hit and a pair of walks.  MCLA finally closed the gap in the fifth when Andrew Casteel began the frame with a single and Nick DiSanti walked.  After a bunt moved the runners up into scoring position, Nate Gutmann's RBI groundout made it 2-1 in favor of Fitchburg.  Parsons would strand the tying run at third however as the lefty got Ryan Shook to groundout and end the inning.

The Falcons would tack on some insurance runs in the seventh inning crossing the dish four times, two of which were unearned.  Andrew Mooney and Currie both reach to start the inning and Lozada's bunt single loaded the bases without an out.  Nate Littman lofted a sacrifice fly for the first run and Cutler drove home another with a single.  Mike St. John's double scored Steven Drury with the final run of the game.

Parsons worked a perfect seventh to finish the win.  He allowed just the three hits and struck out 7 Trailblazers.  Lozada, Cutler, and Mooney all finished with two hits.

Nolan absorbed the loss for MCLA striking out six batters in six innings of work.

In game two, the Falcons scored single runs in the second and third innings of MCLA starter Todd Hunt.  They would ultimately take control with a four run fifth and add four more in the sixth and two in the seventh to cruise home.

Cutler scored the game's first run after he reached on a bunt single and came around to score on Luis Ortiz' RBI double to the gap making it 1-0.  Currie would get in the action in the third inning as he singled and came around to score on Drury's bases loaded walk.

The Falcons opened it up with the four run fifth inning highlighted by St. John's two run single.  He'd add another two RBI in the sixth with a double and pinch hitter Robert Lewis drilled a two run homer in the seventh inning as the key blows.

Lozada was outstanding in game two earning the shutout by allowing just three hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out five Trailblazers.  St. John paced the offense with two hits and 4 RBI.  Roel Fernandez, Ortiz, and Cutler all finished with two hits as the Falcons battered the MCLA staff for 14 hits.

Hunt took the loss going the first 4.2 innings for MCLA.

The Trailblazers are back at it on Patriots Day traveling to Mass. Maritime Academy for a 1pm doubleheader.
