Baseball drops season opening 7-4 decision to Stevenson (MD)
Owings Mills, MD- Stevenson (MD) scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie and would go on to defeat MCLA by a 7-4 score in the opening game of a three game series. The teams were scheduled to play two games on Saturday, however field conditions spurred the change to a single game. The two teams will attempt to play a pair of games tomorrow at 8am and beat the potential weather moving into the area.
Stevenson (4-2) received a pair of hits from Alex Kidwiler, Thomas Holcomb, and Nate Perkins in the win. Brady Helsinki (1-0) earned the win in relief of starter Joe Thompston.
MCLA opened the scoring in the second inning as Jake Ferrara singled home Logan Rumbolt for an early 1-0 lead. Dillon Maxon's RBI groundout extended the lead to 2-0 before Stevenson came back.
In the fourth inning, the Mustangs would score three runs, the key blow a two run double off the bat of Holcomb making it 3-2 in favor of the hosts. Stevenson would tack on another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 4-2.
MCLA would eventually knot things up when Rumbolt belted a two run single scoring Christian Seariac and Jeff Bink in the sixth inning to make it 4-4 setting up Stevenson key seventh inning.
An error gave Stevenson the lead at 5-4 before Kessler was hit by a pitch driving in another run to increase the lead to 6-4. Another sac fly made it 7-4 and MCLA would get no closer as Helsinki closed the door on the Trailblazer offense.
MCLA was paced by Seariac offensively, who had a pair of hits in the loss. The Trailblazers were outhit by the Mustangs 10-7.
Bobby New (0-1) suffered the loss tossing seven full innings. He surrendered all seven runs, however just three were earned.
