Baseball drops early season twinbill to Dolphins

Flemington, NJ-- The MCLA Baseball team continued their early season action as they faced off with the College of Mount Saint Vincent this afternoon at Diamond Nation in New Jersey.  The Trailblazers were swept by the Dolphins by scores of 7-1 and 29-4.  MCLA is now 1-2 on the season while the Dolphins improve to 2-2 overall.

Game One:

In the opener, MCLA trailed 2-0 early after starter Bryan Rosario gave up solo runs in the first and second frames.  The Trailblazers got a run back in the top of the third as Robinson Guerrero-Baez scored to make it 2-1.

Rosario settled down and didn't give up a run over the third and fourth innings, but the Dolphins struck for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach.  Jake Blinstrub's RBI hit started the rally and a few plays later after a passed ball, it was 7-1 in favor of the Dolphins.

CMSV starter Aidan Rice (1-1) was in control over his five innings of work to earn his first win of the season.  He allowed just three hits and struck out four Trailblazers on the afternoon.  Sean Kennedy came on in relief and tossed a pair of scoreless innings to secure the win.

CMSV outhit MCLA 7-4 in the opener as Matt DiNorcia led the offense with two hits and three RBI's.

Game Two:

The nightcap was a different story as CMSV started fast as they scored in every frame.  They led 7-0 thru two innings of play and after increasing the margin with a run in the third, they broke it wide open with seven more runs in the fourth to make it 15-0.  They would cruise home from there.

CMSV belted three home runs in the contest as Jake Pierr, Joey DiNorcia, and Sean Kennedy each went deep off the MCLA staff.

Joey DiNorcia ended the game going 4-6 with 5 RBI's to lead the offense.  Matt DiNorcia added a 4-6 afternoon and drove in four runs himself.  In all, the Dolphins collected 20 hits.

The offensive explosion was plenty for starting pitcher Andrew Geiger as he earned the win going five innings and striking out 7.

MCLA's Austin Rachiele had three hits in game two to pace the Trailblazers.  Robert Correia absorbed the loss for MCLA off the mound.
