Baseball swept by Wentworth on opening day of Florida Swing

Davenport, FL-- The MCLA Baseball team opened up their Florida swing this afternoon with a pair of games against Wentworth.  The Trailblazers were swept by the Leopards by scores of 5-3 and 14-5.  Wentworth is now 6-2 overall while MCLA dips to 1-4.

Game 1

In the opener, MCLA got off to a good start with a run in the top of the first.  Austin Rachiele walked to open the game and promptly stole second base.  He advanced to third on a Randy Adams base hit and eventually came around to score on a sac fly from Isaiah Mack for an early 1-0 lead.

Wentworth would get two runs off MCLA starter Bryan Rosario in the second to take a 2-1 advantage, but MCLA responded with solo tallies in the fourth and fifth innings to regain the lead at 3-2.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Leopards finally broke through.  The Leopards took advantage of a Trailblazer miscue and an RBI walk to take a 5-3 lead.

MCLA put runners on in each of the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't mount a rally.

Wentworth's Brodi Farinas earned the win going the first six innings and striking out 7 Trailblazers.  Jon Campbell earned the save with a scoreless seventh.

Adams had three hits to lead the MCLA offense.  Rosario was saddled with the loss.

Game 2

The Leopards took advantage of the Trailblazer pitching staff in game two.  Wentworth was the beneficiary of 14 walks in the contest.   They jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and chased MCLA starter Nathan Kumm after just 1.2 innings.  The Leopards led 6-0 after one and a half innings.

MCLA answered with a pair of runs in the second inning highlighted by Josh Bologh's sac fly and an RBI walk.

The Trailblazers could not keep the momentum going however as Wentworth plated seven runs in the fifth to put the game away.

Bologh was the lone bright spot for MCLA as he ripped a three run homer in the sixth inning, his first as a Trailblazer.  He led the team with 4 RBI's on the afternoon.

MCLA is back in action on Saturday as they take on Colby Sawyer.
