Baseball falls in extras to Elms 11-10

Holyoke, MA— The MCLA Baseball team rallied late to push the game into extra innings, however Elms College's AJ Cook blasted a walk off triple in the eleventh inning to give the host Blazers an 11-10 win over the Trailblazers this evening from McKenzie Stadium.  Elms is now 8-10 overall while MCLA drops to 8-11.  The Trailblazers have now lost four straight contests.

MCLA started fast in the top of the first.  Robinson Guerrero-Baez cracked his first home run of the season with one out to take an early 1-0 lead.  Not to be outdone, teammate Randy Adams followed with a blast of his own.  The back to back home runs gave MCLA a quick 2-0 advantage.

Elms would get a run back in the first off MCLA starter Isaiah Tucker to slice the margin to 2-1 after one inning of play.

Elms would take their first lead of the night by scoring a solo run in the second inning before plating two more in the third to grab a 4-2 lead.

The lead was short lived as MCLA would rally in the fifth.  Robert Correia dealt the biggest blow with a two run single scoring Adams and Austin Rachiele to tie things up at 4-4.  Ty Mazzeo would follow with a sacrifice fly to give MCLA the lead back at 5-4.

MCLA couldn't keep the hosts off the board for long however.  Elms received a bases loaded triple off the bat of Aaron Young to regain control and lead 7-5.  A squeeze bunt brought in another run to make it 8-5 thru five innings of play.

The Trailblazers would rally however in the eighth inning.  MCLA scored five times without recording a hit in the inning.  The offense parlayed three walks, three errors, and two hit batters into their five run outburst.  The inning could have produced more runs with a key hit, however Elms induced a strikeout and fly out to stop the rally.  The Trailblazers however led 10-8 heading to the bottom of the eighth.

Elms would tie things up in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to send the game into extra innings.

Neither team would push a run across in the tenth inning before Elms finally struck gold in the eleventh.  With one out, Elms recorded a single and then AJ Cook blasted a run scoring triple to record the walk off win.

Adams paced MCLA going 3-5 with a pair of RBI's and two runs scored.  The Trailblazers tallied nine hits and seven walks in the contest.  MCLA used five pitchers in the game as Joseph Cambareri was the tough luck loser tossing the final three innings.  He allowed just three hits and recorded a pair of strikeouts.

MCLA is back in action Friday when they are scheduled to host Worcester State.
