WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State rapped out 17 hits and took 13 walks on their way to a 13-3 victory over MCLA in the final game of their Massachusetts Stater Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) baseball series on Wednesday afternoon at Lyons Diamond.

The win secures a sweep of the three-game set, as the Lancers (13-11, 7-3 MASCAC) took both games in a doubleheader last week. That game was played at a neutral site, while today's game was played with MCLA (10-17, 1-9) as the designated home team.

Worcester State scored six runs in the top of the eighth to blow the game open after taking a 6-0 lead after the fourth inning. In that six-run eighth, they took advantage of two errors and were issued five free passes, including three with the bases loaded.

Freshman Anthony Iamarone (Providence, R.I.) went 2-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Thomas DiBattista (Hudson, Mass.) was on base four times with two hits and two walks.

DiBattista knocked in a pair, including one on a double through the left side in the second to score Iamarone and get the Lancers out in front.

Iamarone doubled in a run in the third, an inning that also included an RBI triple to right center by Chris Wright (Jefferson, Mass.) and a run-scoring single by Chris Ausiello (Tyngsboro, Mass.).

Iamarone plated two more with a single to right center in the fourth.

The Trailblazers got on the board in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by Randy Adams (Fullerton, Calif.), but that preceded the eighth inning where Worcester loaded the bases with one out. Xavier Quezada (Providence, R.I.), DiBattista and Grant Hartley (Auburn, Maine) all took RBI walks, while Brett Blackwell (Haverhill, Mass.) and Tom Halliwell (Leominster, Mass.) also drove in runs.

Quezada singled home Tyler Smith (Leominster, Mass.) in the 9th for his second RBI of the game.

Freshman Jarret Morrill (Chelmsford, Mass.) continued his strong rookie campaign with five scoreless innings. Morrill allowed just four hits and struck out four while improving to 2-1 on the year.

Noah Stuart (Hudson, Mass.) and Kyle Cravatis (Beverly, Mass.) each pitched scoreless innings in relief for the Lancers.

MCLA will return to MASCAC play with a weekend series against Mass. Maritime, starting in North Adams on Friday at 4:00 PM.
