Baseball swept by MASCAC front runner Mass. Maritime

Buzzards Bay, MA-- The MCLA Baseball team traveled to Buzzards Bay this afternoon to take on the Mass. Maritime Buccaneers.  The Trailblazers dropped the opener 10-1 before falling in the nightcap 6-0.

MCLA is now 10-19 overall and 1-11 in the MASCAC.  The Bucs are 18-11 and remain atop the conference standings at 10-2.

Game One: MMA 10, MCLA 1

In the opener, the Bucs started fast scoring seven times in the first inning.  Trailblazer starter Nathan Kumm didn't make it out of the first inning as the Bucs batted around.  Aidan Henderson started things off with a bases clearing triple down the left field line to make it 3-0.  Three RBI singles increased the lead to 6-0 and the final run of the frame came across on a throwing error as the Bucs led 7-0.

The would add a single tally in the second before MCLA got a run across in the third.  Robinson Guerrero-Baez doubled home Austin Rachiele to cut the lead to 8-1.  

MMA would tack on insurance runs in the third and sixth innings as they cruised to a win.

MMA outhit MCLA 11-8 on the afternoon.  AJ Pietrafesa, Brett Velzis, Henderson, and Tucker Leslie each had two hits.  Maritime starter Brodey Tinkham went the distance allowing 8 hits and just one earned run.

Kumm suffered the loss for MCLA.

Game Two: MMA 6, MCLA 0

Maritime's Hunter Dean was outstanding in the nightcap.  He tossed all seven frames and allowed just three hits in recording the shutout victory.  He struck out six Trailblazers.

MMA got a pair of runs in the first off MCLA starter Nate Morse.  Velzis recorded a sacrifice fly to start the scoring and Henderson doubled home Zach Sylvia to make it 2-0.

Sylvia would add his own RBI double an inning later and when Pietrafesa followed suit, it was 4-0.  The Bucs would tack on solo runs in the fifth and sixth frames to close out the scoring.

Sylvia and AJ Luciano each ended with a pair of hits to pace the MMA attack.

Morse went five innings for MCLA scattering 8 hits and allowing four earned runs.
