Baseball Drop Series Opener to Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The MCLA Baseball team took to the highway this afternoon, heading east to meet Bridgewater State in the opener of their three-game weekend series. Seven different Trailblazers picked up hits, and every starter reached base at least once, but the Bears rode a 16-hit attack to win 15-4.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • MCLA were the first ones on the scoreboard, plating a pair of runs in the second inning. Ty Mazzeo brought Matt Castillo home with a single through the right side of the infield. Two batters later, Jayco Pena scored on Matt Damon's fielder's choice.
  • In the third inning, the Trailblazers stretched their lead to 3-0 when Joshua Bissaillon singled down the leftfield line to bring home Edison Galan.
  • The momentum shifted to the hosts, who responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame and then tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The game proceeded to get out of hand from MCLA in the middle innings, with Bridgewater scoring 12 runs between the fifth and sixth innings.
  • The Trailblazers did add one last run in the top of the ninth when Matt Castillo's bases loaded ground out to first forced home Justin Hernandez.
  • The Bears' Matthew Seavey kept his record clean, improving to 7-0 after scattering six hits and allowing only three runs in six innings pitched. MCLA's Aiden Brett took the loss to fall to 0-4 on the season.

UP NEXT:

On Saturday, MCLA will be back in action when they host to Bridgewater State for a MASCAC matchup with the Bears at the Zavattaro Athletics Complex. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
