The first game was a bit rough for the Trailblazers that was lowlighted by a nine-run inning for the Pride enroute to a 14-0 win for the hosts. While the second game had a similar result for MCLA, it was highlighted by a bases loaded, base clearing triple by Roshan Warriar that tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning before Springfield went on to take a 9-3 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game #1
    • While the first game was rough on MCLA, it wasn't all doom and gloom. Springfield College built their lead early, scoring 14 runs, five earned on 11 hits in over the course of their first eight outs. From that point on, three different Trailblazers combined to limit the Pride to two hits over three and a third innings.
    • Sophomore Collin Booth (Clarksburg, MA) relieved Starter Nate Morse (Holyoke, MA) (0-1) in the third inning and returned to complete the fourth inning. Seniors Garrett Brunette (Fairhaven, MA) and Brady Hamel (Port St. Lucie, FL) each then followed up with scoreless inning.
    • MCLA's offense was held to only three hits by Springfield starter Nate Kelleher-Mochak (W, 1-1) and two relievers. The three singles were surrendered to junior first baseman Chris Vargas (Queens Village, NY), senior third baseman Joshua Bissaillon (East Greenbush, NY), and sophomore catcher Henry Blake (Brookfield, MA).
  • Game #2
    • The highlight for the Trailblazers in the second game of the day came with the team trailing 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Vargas was hit by a pitch, and advanced to second two batters later when senior catcher Josh Bologh (Waterbury, CT) drew a walk. Starting pitcher Aidan Brett (Seymour, CT) then helped his own cause with an infield single to the shortstop that loaded the bases for freshman shortstop Roshan Warriar. Warriar then cleaned the bases, collecting his first collegiate hit, with a three-run triple to right field.
    • The triple by Warriar was the only real blemish for the Pride's starter, JP Catellier (1-1) who allowed just three hits in six innings while striking out six. Brett (0-1) allowed only one earned run over four and a third innings with one strike out for MCLA.

UP NEXT:

On Friday, MCLA will be back in action when they travel to the RussMatt Invitational to start their spring break Florida Trip and a doubleheader with the Martin Luther College Knights at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
