Monroe scores 12 points as Trailblazers fall to NYU 97-67
New York, NY- The MCLA Men's Basketball team resumed their season after Thanksgiving by traveling to New York University this afternoon for a non conference matchup with the Violets. The Trailblazers never led as they dropped a 97-67 decision to the hosts. The Violets improve to 4-0 on the season while MCLA drops their third straight and falls to 2-4 on the season.
NYU controlled the contest from the get go as they led 23-8 early and led by as many as 25 in the opening half. The home team would settle on a 51-33 halftime lead and cruise from there. MCLA never got closer as the lead swelled over the closing minutes giving NYU the easy victory.
Patrick Burns scored a career high 22 points for NYU on 8-13 shooting. He added 8 rebounds. Costis Gontikas matched Burns' 22 points as he was 10-14 from the floor. Evan Kupferburg was the only other player in double figures with 10 points. Max Ralby filled the stat sheet with 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists.
NYU shot a torrid 57% from the floor and out rebounded MCLA 48-29. The Violets imposed their will in the paint outscoring MCLA 72-32 in the lane.
MCLA's Ki-Shawn Monroe scored a season high 12 points and added three assists. He was the only Trailblazer in double figures. MCLA shot just 38% in the game.
The Trailblazers are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Wesleyan for a 7pm tip.
