Men's Basketball Stumble at Charlie Ryan Classic

Hayden Morris-Gray led MCLA with 16 points in a loss to UMPI

WATERVILLE, Maine – The MCLA Men's Basketball team headed north to play in the Charlie Ryan Classic hosted by Thomas College in the Larry Mahaney Gymnasium. The Trailblazers opened with a matchup with the Maine Presque Isle Owls.

The UMPI Men's Basketball team shared the wealth for the second straight game in their win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Friday night. Three days removed from putting 15 different players in the scoring column, the Owls starting five all put up great numbers in their 75-61 victory over the Trailblazers.

It wasn't totally smooth sailing, however. MCLA led by as many as seven in the first half as the two teams traded runs. The Blazers led 35-31 at halftime. The second half began slow, but UMPI would eventually put up a massive 26-3 run, turning a six-point deficit into a 17-point lead. UMPI didn't let off the gas from there as they closed out the game down the stretch.
